Location Examples
Some locations I know well and LOVE!
Ogden park:
This place is easily accessible, free, and has tons of open space and is beautiful throughout various seasons. It’s also easy to photograph here in the morning and evening! Located west of Ogden near West Haven/Plain City.
Canyon RIM PARK:
Canyon Rim park is very accessible, free, and has lots of huge trees, hills, and a fun mural. It’s typically not that busy, and can be used easily for morning and evening sessions. This is a great place if you want nature but don’t want to have to walk through nature, haha. Located in East Millcreek, Salt Lake County.
Tunnel springs park:
Tunnel Springs Park is a new popular location because it’s very open! The view overlooks west and can be great for shooting late into the evening. Because of its popularity, it can be busy, but we are usually able to avoid having other people in the backgrounds! Great for morning and evening sessions. There is no cost to shoot here, has a parking lot, and has a pathway. Located in south Bountiful area at the top of a neighborhood.
UPPER MILLCREEK CANYON:
I’ve photographed several areas up Millcreek Canyon and so I’ll list them separately. This is at the very top near the Dog Lake trailhead parking lot. It’s very beautiful, and is great for summer and fall - not accessible in early spring or winter. The parking lot can be busy so it’s best to carpool or try to utilize off-season days. Millcreek Canyon does have a small fee to access. Located in Millcreek Canyon, Salt Lake County.
LITTLE DELL RESERVOIR
Little Dell is a great location for beautiful mountain views. It’s typically not very busy, and most of the locations are a short walk from the parking lot. If you choose to park on the lower side, it is $5. NOTE: Little Dell does not allow swimming/wading in the water and no dogs. Located up Parley’s Canyon on the north side.
AVENUES:
The avenues are always fun to shoot in! There’s tons of character, easily accessible, and general very chill. Perfect if you’d like more lifestyle type portraits! Located in the avenues of Salt Lake City.
PINEVIEW:
One of my favorite secret spots! It’s on the south side of Pineview Reservoir and is free. The views are either wild and grassy, or the lake. Best time to shoot is evening! Located up Ogden Canyon.
UTAH CAPITOL:
Photographing at the capitol is awesome because of the beautiful lawns, city views, and the tree lined pathway. There is no cost and easy parking. Shooting here in the morning is never really busy, and the evenings are beautiful as well. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
MEMORY GROVE:
Memory Grove is located just down from the capitol and is another beautifully landscaped area. There are pathways, trees, flowers, and old stairs that are really cool. The location is free, dogs are allowed, and parking is available at the capitol. NOTE: It can get very busy, there is a wedding venue onsite, and the path down from the capitol is a little steep.
